The Rifugio Brigata Lupi di Toscana lies in the relaxing verdant setting of the Altopiano di Boniprati in the Valle del Chiese, and is dedicated to the soldiers who fought heroically in the Giudicarie valleys during the Great War. The refuge is owned by the Scaia family, who built the current structure out of a wooden chalet. Children can have fun in the playground while gourmets can enjoy a plate of polenta carbonera (typical to this area) and blueberry or “radic de l’ors” (wild radicchio) risotto.
Open
Every day from early May to early November
In winter from Christmas to 6 January
Open on weekends all year round
Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut
Walks
The Altopiano di Boniprati is the perfect place for walking enthusiasts and mushroom gatherers (permit required). The nearby Malga Table and the Maress, Clavet and Clef malgas (summer pastures) can be reached along an easy forest track. At the latter a small military cemetery commemorates the fallen of the Great War. Cima Pissola (45 minutes from Malga Table, E) rewards the ascent with its views, but is also recommended for anyone interested in the events of the Great War and (in winter) for ski mountaineers and snowshoers.
